Automatic Light Controlling and Water Management for Public Garden

The most important problems faced are the misuse of electricity and its wastage. Sometimes due to carelessness of the authorities and the workers lamps are left ON which results in wastage of electricity. Water wastage is another problem which needs to be dealt with. Our project helps to overcome all these problems.

We use light dependent resistor (LDR) to control the on and off state of the lamps in the garden. In evening when the light intensity decreases the lamps are turned on. The remaining on unless the light intensity is increase again. In morning when the intensity of light increases the lamps are switched off again.

Moisture sensor senses the moisture in the lawn of the garden. If the moisture level is sufficient the water pump is off. If the moisture level is low then the water pump is turned on and the garden is watered.

Once the system is installed in the garden all working is done automatically. There is very less maintenance work.

Now a day’s people need comfort in every field. All prefer less work with more profit.

Our project is an automation project which helps in controlling the various activities of garden such as watering the trees, lawn, plants, controlling the light in garden.

Firstly the moisture sensor will detect the level of moisture in the soil. The output of moisture sensor will be given to ADC of microcontroller. According to the input from moisture sensor the mini water pump is turned on or off and the watering action will be done automatically. If the level of moisture is low microcontroller will start the motor to water the garden.

The lights are switched on depending upon the output of the LDR. The output of LDR will be given to ADC of microcontroller. According to the input from LDR the relay is turned on or off which controls the on and off action of the lamp and the lights remain functional till the garden remains open for visitors.  These are the step involved in the operation of the circuit and the public garden automation. Microcontroller is used to supervise the actions of all other devices and to control the entire set of operations.

diagram description-

LDR: LDR is used to sense the light conditions. The lights are switched on depending upon the output of the LDR. The output of LDR will be given to ADC of AVR microcontroller.

Relay1: According to the input from LDR the relay is turned on or off which controls the on and off action of the lamp and the lights remain functional till the garden remains open for visitors.

Moisture Sensor: Moisture sensor will detect the level of moisture in the soil. The output of moisture sensor will be given to ADC of microcontroller.

Relay2: According to the input from moisture sensor the mini water pump is turned on or off and the watering action will be done automatically. If the level of moisture is low microcontroller will start the motor to water the garden.

Microcontroller: Microcontroller is used to supervise the actions of all other devices and to control the entire set of operations.

LDR

  Light dependent resistor-

Light dependent resistor has a particular property in that they remember the lightening conditions in which they have been stored. This memory effect can be minimized by storing the LDRs in light prior to use. Light storage reduces the equilibrium time to reduce the steady state response.

Liquid/Moisture Sensor

Detects presence of liquid or moisture between two wire leads and gives active low output.

Applications

  • Interfacing with Microcontroller to detect liquid levels.
  • Moisture detection for automatic watering of plants.
  • Liquid level detection by putting multiple probes at each liquid level.
  • Detect sewer line plugs (water backing up toward the access port).
  • Hot water heater / clothes washer / AC condensate pump overflows/leaks.

 

APPLICATION:

  1. This small scale project can be implemented in any public garden with minimum cost and resources.

 

  1. This helps in proper utilization of the available resources and helps in avoiding wastage of electricity and water.
